Our Story
Ash Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church began in April of 1881, when a small group of believers gathered with a shared desire to worship, learn, and serve their community. What started as a modest country church on Ash Hill Road has continued for over 140 years, shaped by generations of families, faithful pastors, and God’s unwavering grace.
Throughout every season, Ash Hill has remained committed to:
Preaching the truth of God’s Word
Investing in children and families
Loving and serving our community
Helping people grow in their walk with Christ
Today, we continue that legacy — not just preserving our past, but actively pursuing the future God has called us into. Whether you’ve been in church your entire life or you’re simply exploring faith, there is a place for you at Ash Hill.
We’re more than a church — we’re a family.
Bro. Steve Rogers
Bro. Steve Rogers gave his life to Jesus Christ at the age of 26 and soon began discerning a call to ministry through working with children in the neighborhood surrounding the church he attended. In 2008, he surrendered to pastoral ministry within the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Memphis Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and was ordained in 2012. He has had the privilege of serving as pastor of Ash Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 2020.
His passion is to share Jesus Christ with those God has placed around him and to invite others into a life-giving relationship with Holy God. A guiding Scripture in his life and ministry is 2 Peter 3:9, which reminds him that God was patient with him and continues to be patient with everyone.
Two quotes that shape his heart for ministry are from Reverend Johnnie Welch:
“The gospel is neither inclusive nor exclusive; it is an invitation to be in relationship with Holy God,”
and from Reverend Dave LaNeave:
“I love you, and there is nothing you can do about it.”
He is married to his wife, Eva, and is blessed with three sons—Alex (Liz), Hayden (Liz), and Jacob (Chloe)—and two wonderful granddaughters, Sophia and Stella.
